A delicious day in Amsterdam visiting the Westerkerk, the Nieuwe Kerk, the Oude Kerk, and, of course, the Rijksmuseum with its Rembrandts, Vermeers and Jan Steens. Rembrandt was buried in the Westerkerk, but noone knows exactly where. This reminds me of Miguel de Cervantes, who was buried in the Convent at Alcala de Henares, near Madid, and no one knows exactly where his bones lie. Another piece of trivia, the trunk shown on one of the pictures at the Rijksmuseum shows the book trunk in which the great international jurist Hugo de Groot (otherwise known as Grotius) had himself transported to freedom after being condemned in a political kangaroo trial.
I was at the Rijksmuseum decades ago, but still remember the famous NightWatch by Rembrandt. Wonderful place, Amsterdam.
