This blog is devoted to legal, historical and human rights matters, in which issues of general concern are addressed freely and spontaneously. It is intended to further an informal exchange of views in the democratic spirit of freedom of opinion and respect for the opinions of others, in an effort to understand rather than condemn, to propose constructive solutions rather than grandstand. The perspective is both from inside and outside the box and the added value lies more in the questions than in the answers.

Activities in Vienna

2-3 April I attended a conference at the United Nations in Vienna on Direct Democracy. I spoke on my mandate and how the instruments of people initiative, referenda and recall can promote the realization of an international order that is more peaceful, democratic and equitable. Among other participants were Andreas Bummel, Secretary General of the campaign for a UN Parliamentary Assembly, Dr. Michael Platzer, Vienna Liaison Office of the Acedemic Council on the United Nations System (ACUNS), and representatives of civil society organizations including Democracy International and Mehr Demokratie. We also visited the Austrian Parliament and did a poll on public participation and consultation on the TTIP. Here some photos.
